How to check if we are in the debtors database

There are several databases of debtors in Poland, to which our names may be entered, if we do not properly implement our financial obligations. Here are the 4 most important debt registers:

  1. BIK – Credit Information Bureau is not a register of debtors, but only a database on the credit history of bank customers, credit unions and loan companies, i.e. from the entire Polish credit market; is the largest data collection in Poland about individual clients and entrepreneurs, as it has information on 135 million accounts belonging to 23 million individual clients and information on credit history in total 785.5 thousand. companies and other entities; here you can find information about loans repaid on time and late. It is worth noting that banks have a statutory obligation to cooperate with the register, while lending institutions do not have such an obligation, hence the loan without BIK exists only in the non-banking sector;
  2. BIG InfoMonitor – InfoMonitor Economic Information Bureau collects and shares data related to the debt of consumers and entrepreneurs; here you can find information on the payment of various types of obligations, such as telephone and media bills, maintenance installments, settlement of debt obligations, B2B contracts; BIG allows confirming the financial credibility of clients;
  3. KRD – National Debt Register deals with the collection and storage of economic information and data on all business entities – from sole proprietorships, through small and medium enterprises to large corporations; we find here data on both debt and timely fulfillment of obligations by companies and consumers;
  4. ERIF BIG – ERIF Economic Information Bureau collects and stores information about both debtors and payers who regulate their financial obligations in a timely manner; here you can find data on liabilities from primary and secondary markets, including telecommunications, multimedia, banking and finance.

Who can enter in the debtors database?

Entering the debtors’ database is one of the stages of the debt collection process. The creditor who will enter us into the debtors database can only be an entrepreneur who has signed a contract with the client. As for a natural person, the minimum amount of debt is PLN 200. However, entrepreneurs must be in arrears with payments over PLN 500. Not less than 60 days must have passed from the payment date to the date of entry into the database. It is worth noting, however, that the creditor is required to inform his debtor of his intention to enter him in the register 30 days before carrying out this operation. We will probably receive this information in the form of a registered letter. The exception is the judicial confirmation of our debt – in this situation anyone can be a creditor, and when the debt was incurred, the contract did not have to be signed, the payment deadline does not matter – the creditor must first receive an enforceable title from the court.

How to check the entry in the register of debtors?

Each loan database belongs to a different company and their resources are not connected with each other, so if we want to check our data, we should do it separately in each of them. We have the right to check information about ourselves free of charge once every six months. What’s more – we can check who entered us and for what, as well as who searched for information about us throughout the year. The convenience is that we can do it at home and at any time. Data checking is possible via the internet. Here’s how to check your data in some databases:

  • KRD – we can verify information about ourselves completely free; to check if we are in the KRD, you will need to register on the register’s website and then send your ID card scan to confirm your identity; at the end we download the report and check the information it contains;
  • ERIF – checking if we appear in the ERIF debtors database is free once every 6 months – otherwise the fee is PLN 3; to download the report, registration and setting up a free account is required, followed by selecting the “check yourself” tab and downloading the report – check whether you are in the ERIF debtors database;
  • BIG InfoMonitor – how to check if you are in BIG InfoMonitor? The process of verifying our data in this database of debtors does not differ significantly from the others – you should register on the dedicated page and enter the necessary information, and then download the report;

We can also control your data in the Credit Information Bureau. The BIK report is free and it is worth reaching out to find out what information about our economic activities is available on the Internet. Verifying your data in the debtors’ databases from time to time, we will avoid unpleasant situations and refusal to make credit decisions in banks.

Removing the entry from the register of debtors

Removing the entry from the register of debtors

If we were entered in one of the registers, but the debt was settled by us, then we should be removed from the list of debtors. Our creditor is responsible for removal from the register, who has 14 days from full repayment of the obligation to update the data. In the event that he fails to perform his task, he faces a high fine. Even if we pay off part of the debt, the creditor should record this information in the register. The only way to delete data from the registry is to completely pay the amount due. However, we must be aware that even after paying off the entire required loan amount, information about it can be stored and made public for a period of 5 years.

As you never know when you will need credit. Banks assess their clients harshly, so it’s better not to be listed in any of the databases. Check out what bank scoring is and you will learn what to watch out for so that you can always get a financial commitment. If we are in the register of debtors, and we do not have the means to pay off the outstanding debt, it is worth looking around for an online loan offer that can be granted even to a high-risk client. Check the loans offer without bases!
